Hotels in Bali especially the ones in Kuta, Nusa Dua, and Sanur areas are fully booked for the New Year holiday. Most of the hotel officers admitted the fact but most of the rooms were reserved by travel agents. Hotels on Kartika Plaza Street, the coastal strip of Kuta like Inna Kuta Beach and Harris Hotel as well as smaller motels on Popies I, Poppies II, and Legian Street like Maxi, Prawita, and Paradiso Beach Inn have been fully booked as well.
An officer at Maxi Hotel and Spa in Kuta said “If guests want a room then we can only put them on the waiting list, which will get served only if there are other guests cancelling their booking making the room available.” Even Maxi is just a small hotel, it has adorable rooms for both couples and families as well as a swimming pool. The rooms are priced at varied prices between $50 and $120 per night.
The office in Parwita Hotel located just accross the Bali Bomb Monument said that many tourists booked the rooms three months ago in order to anticipate high demand closing to the end of the year. 418 rooms of Hard Rock Hotel on Kuta Beach have also closing to fully booked and starts to apply 800,000 rupiah surcharge for new bookings.
Hotels and villas in Sanur area are also fully booked whether by direct customers and travel agents. I Gde Pitana, Director of International Promotion of Indonesian Ministry for Culture and Tourism said “Most of rooms are booked out. Tourists will have trouble in finding available accommodation until about mid of January 2009.”
He added that hotels in Bali increased the quality of the room by renovation in order to keep the cost down. Statistic shown that Bali has more than 55,000 hotel rooms, most of which in poor condition. “The need for hotel rooms does not necessarily need new investment, only renovation. It is more cost-effective and will surely minimize potential on environmental damages,” said Pitana.
