Silver plated clamshell handicraft with Balinese carvings are highly sought after by Europeans especially from Italy, Germany, and UK. “The sale of the commodity increased in the export market due to unique look of the products,” Denpasar based handicraft salesperson Nyoman Sutami said here on Monday.
Head of Bali Industry and Trade Office Ngurah Suteja said that foreign exchange revenue had increased this year because of these commodity. “The export of the commodity has produced 2.3 million US dollars in January to September 2008, a 30% increase compared to the same period of last year which recorded 1.8 million US dollars,” he exposed the statistics.
Everybody admitted that Balinese craftmen are creative in producing handicraft articles. Domestic tourists especially Jakarta women were also attracted by the product which normally priced between 500,000 to 5,000,000 rupiah in retail shops.
