Tenths of dogs in Ungasan village, Uluwatu, Bali were hunted and put to death because in the previous month, there were four people died bitten by dog. The hunt conducted by Badung’s government along with volunteers from Yudisthirawarga Foundation and the local residents in the area.

Indonesian health ministry officers hunted and put to death wild dogs and those believed to be infected by rabies virus. The ministry of health launched a program to control the rabies viros after four people died in the area. More than 55,000 of human rabies occuring in Asia and Africa, according to World Health Organization (WHO).

Wayan Arkanura, the head of Ungasan village said “in addition to hunt the wild dog, we also encouraged the people to hand over their dogs for examination.” The hunt carried out since early in the morning and cought tenths of dogs which were immediately put to death.

Arkanura added that the dogs owned by someone will be examined in the nearest animal clinic and if the dog proven to be healthy, will be returned to the rightful owner. Ketut Wiratha and Made Artana, two Balinese from Giri Dharma died after being bitten by wild dogs.

Ketut Wiratha died after the dog bitten him whe he wanted to go to the toilet and Made Artana was bitten in the yard of his residence. In addition to the four death, 20 others were injured bitten by the stray dog. “The number of wild dogs increase greatly this year so we need to control their population,” added Arkanura.
