After strong wave swept Kuta beach bringing tons of debris, thousands of dead fishes flooded the most popular beach in Bali. An officer of Kuta lifeguard explained that the debris brought in by wave has frequently happened in Bali. Soaring wave of about one and a half meters emerged on the beach on Thursday, December 4th 2008 followed by strong wind. When the wave returned to normal it left debris and dead fishes scattered around on the beach.
Tourists wanting to enjoy the sunset or surf on Kuta beach chose other beaches to visit. Most of them went to shops or bar whilst some of them even went back to their hotel. Agus Sataki, the Head of Public Relation Division in Badung government said that the government along with locals in Kuta was trying to clean the debris.
“Until today, most of the remains had been buried and we will continue on cleaning until the beach clear from all debris,” added Sataki. The debris and fishes remain spread on 10 kilometers beach along the shoreline. The officer sispected that dead fishes were once thrown away by the fishermen in the middle of the sea and swept away to the beach.
