Denpasar government planted 12,500 trees to support the program of planting a million of trees promoted by Indonesian President, Susilo Bambang Yodhoyono. The program was started by i.B. Rai Dharmawijaya Mantra, the deputy of Denpasar Mayor by planting trees at Teuku Umar Barat on Monday (December 1st).

The activity was also involved women organization from all around Denpasar, public officials, and local residents in the area. The species has been carefully chosen to ensure quick growth with minimum care. The Deputy Mayor asked everyone to plant trees any space available such as in their own yard. The such activity is very important to preserve natural resource such as well as to reduce negative effect of global warming.

Meanwhile I.A. Selly Mantra, the head of the program, explained that the theme was “Women to plant, spread and take care in 2008″. “We would like to invite not only women but everyone to participate in the program as well as preserving the one that are already in existence,” add Selly.

In addition to Teuku Umar Barat area, similar program will also conducted at Tukad Barito, Tukad Badung, and Mertasari Beach of Sanur.
