Indian President Pratibha Devisingh Patil and her 60-member entourage on Saturday visited Hindu temple of Taman Ayun in Mengwi district of Badung regency. The Regent of Badung Anak Agung Gede Agung and tens of yiung children performing traditional dances greeted the Indian President before she entered the shrine.

Wearing white saree and yellow shawl the Indian Presdent had her prayer led by the Hindu priest of the temple, together with hundreds of local residents. The Indian President spent about one hour in the temple and planted a mangosteen tree and sowed flower to respect the plantation.

Taman Ayun Temple is located about 18 kilometers north of Denpasar and built in the era of Mengwi monarch in the 17th century. The temple is surrounded by vast fidh ponds giving the impression of floating on the water. The temple covers four heactares land boasting beautiful buildings in Balinese traditional architecture completed with with multi-tiered roof. It also has ample beautifully lanscaped garden in its courtyard.

President Patil and her entourage arrived in Bali on Friday evening, November 28th 2008, for a visit to Indonesia until December 3rd 2008. She left Bali for Jakarta on Sunday, November 30th 2008 to strengthen bilateral relationship and cooperation between Indonesia and India, especially in political, economic, trade, investment, and tourism sectors.
