The government of Karangasem Regency reminded that there are possibilites of landslide to happen in Besakih, an area located about 65 kilometers to the south east of Denpasar. Certain spots in the slope of Mount Agung are known to be prone to landslide.

Landslides are often to occur in heavy rain in the area within Karangasem Regency. Wayan Geredeg, the Regent of Karangasem said that the condition is worsened when local people come in a large number to either pray or just have sightseeing tour to the mother temple of Besakih. The such situation has brought damage to the temple perimeters.

“Everybody has to be allerted about the situation so casualities can be avoided,” said Geredeg. Officers in the office of Karangasem government said that there are 18 points with potential landslide, most of which are located very close to Besakih temple.

Last year landslide has taken one life. Wayan Supar was killed and his sister Nengah Tantri was injured in landslide. There is a great hope that there will be no more victims taken by similar incident.
