Real artists are expected to support and improve soundly, firmly, and consistently by inventing ideas for quality art works. “A real artist’s work will surprise art lovers and devotees with their paintings,” said the pioneer and the director of Neka Museum in Ubud atists’ village, Pande Wayan Suteja.
He said that real and dedicated artists are oriented to artistic pleasure and satisfaction and thend to be egocentric. “They will explore various tastes and richness of art disregarding the market value,” said Suteja. If a work of art gets high appreciation, a big sum of money will come on its own. On the contrary, a painter is not a real and dedicated artist, he will be orientated to market demands and tastes or any other infliencing factors.
Siteja said that an artist can emerge and grow in bot academic and non-academic ways. Threfore, formal educational institutions play a decisive role in emergence of new artists. “A panting of an academic-born artist is not a true work of art because many of those painters are market oriented,” he continued.
This is shown in lack of identity of their paintings, trailing after best selling paintings in the market. Meanwhile the non-academic way can be taken by apprenticeship, although at the beginning they tend to be trailing behind their mentor, at the end they will develop their own style.
