Bali government will not emphasis on promoting abroad will but will promote in Indonesia more in 2009 in order to increase the number of tourists visited Bali. Bali Governor, Made Mangku Pastika, said “We hope that domestic tourists will visit Bali.”

The promotion abroad will be limited next year in order to anticipate the financial crisis which occurs throughout the world. “Currently, Bali Government preserved the safety level so the tourists feel comfortable staying in the island,” added Pastika.

Ida Komang Wismi, the head of Bali Statistics Department said that the target of tourists visited Bali in 2008 was 1.9 million. The total number of tourists came to Bali on January through October 2008 was 1,660,258 people so the government optimist that the target can be fulfilled this year.

The number of tourist increased 20% compared to last year which was only 1,379,907. In October 2008, the number of tourists was 181,074 which increase 23% compared to the same month last year and 0.13% compared to September 2008.

The Australian tourist was the most tourist visited Bali followed by Japanese, South Korean, Chinese, and Malaysian. The high number of tourists also affected the hotel occupancy in Bali. The average occupancy rate for stars hotels during September 2008 was 68% with the average staying duration of 3.9 days

The number deceased 1.2% compared to August 2008. For the non-star hotels, the occupancy rate in September 2008 was 36% and the average staying duration of 3.08 days. The condition decreased 6% compared to the previous month.
