Denpasar – Thousands of Hindus queued in order to pray inside of Sakenan temple on Saturday, March 28th 2009. The temple is located around 15 kilometers south of Denpasar. In adition to Sakenan Temple, Hindus also packed themselves into Jagatnatha Temple, which is located in the heart of Denpasar in celebration of Kuningan Day.
The ceremony was led by two priests and the Hindus were very patient while waiting to enter the temple because of its limited capacity. The Sakenan Island used to be separate from Bali, and when the Hindus wanted to pray in the temple they had to use boats to reach the island. However, Bali’s Government built a road that now connects the two islands, so the Hindus can now use cars and motorcycles to pray in Serangan.
Fewer Hindus prayed at Jagatnatha temple than at Sakenan Temple. The traffic around Denpasar was not as crowded as it usually is on Kuningan, because most of the people prayed in temples throughout Denpasar.
