Denpasar – Richard Sam Bera, a national swimming legend and the editor-in-chief of Men’s Fitness magazine took part in both the group swim and bike tour that was held at the warm-up of Bali International Triathlon (BIT). Richard showed his top form and led the 500 meter group swim which included Philippa Goldie, John Blyther, Agnes Safford and I Wayan Arsana.
The event contiuned with a 40-kilometer, police escorted bike tour through the hills of Nusa Dua, Ungasan and back to Jimbaran bay. During the bike tour, MRA Group’s sports Icon, Richard Sam Bera was joined by Bali cycling prodigy, Wilhelmina Tutuarima, who just recently returned from winning a national race in Bandung, West Java.
The tour was a warm up for the MRA Bali International Triathlon and it went through the same bike route as the one that will be used on June 28th 2009. Helping in providing escorts were Harley Davidson motorcycles from Dewata Harley Davidson Bali, followed by an ambulance from BIMC-Bali fully equipped to provide first-response medical attention.
The race organizer stated that although the sport of triathlon is new to this country, it has a very good future. Understanding the physical demand of joining an Olympic distance individual triathlon, local talents are also encouraged to form teams and join the Team Relay Challenge.
