Denpasar – The general election which will be held today will take place at the same time as the ritual Betara Turun Kabeh at Besakih Temple. Today is also the tenth full moon so Bali will be in its religious mode.
Dewa Raka Sandi, a member of Bali’s Election Commission, said “Most of the Balinese will wear traditional Balinese clothes while giving their votes. Hopefully the election will be carried out peacefully and no problems will arise.”
Betara Turun Kabeh is the peak of the Panca Bali Krama ceremony which will be held for one month at Besakih Temple. Thousands of Hindus throughout the world will take part in the ceremony.
Based on the Hindus calendar, the tenth full moon is the best day to carry out rituals such as piodalan and other important ceremonies.
Mr. Raka Sandi said, “I’m very grateful that the Election Day falls on the same day with Betara Turun Kabeh because it will push the Hindus to vote after praying in the temple.” He explained that all materials for the Election Day have been transported to all areas in Bali including Nusa Penida Island.
Wisnumurti, a political observer, shared the same opinion with Raka Sandi. He hopes that the Betara Turun Kabeh will move the Balinese to vote during this Election Day.
Ketut Putra Lanang Perbawa, the head of Bali’s Election Commission, said that in Bali there are 2,667,065 voters in nine voting areas which are Denpasar, Kabupaten Badung, Tabanan, Jembrana, Buleleng, Bangli, Karangasem, Klungkung and Gianyar. There are 8,166 voting poles in 712 villages throughout Bali.
There are 5,065 candidates and 36 political parties taking part in this election. There are competing to gain 390 seats in Bali’s House of Representatives.
