President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to attend the Asian Development Bank (ADB) annual meeting which will be held in Nusa Dua, Bali, from April 27th to May 6th, 2009, a Bali police spokesman said.
“The president is expected to open and attend the 10 day meeting,” Bali regional Police spokesman Senior Commissioner Gde Sugianyar said.
On the sidelines of security preparations, Sugianyar, who is also a committee spokesman of the event, said the ADB meeting had actually taken place since April 27th, 2009, but the president would open it officially on May 4th, 2009.
The ADB 42nd annual meeting isexpected to be attended by about 4,000 delegates from 67 countries, of which 48 are countries from the Asia – Pacific region.
“The session will be attended by about 5,000 delegates plus 500 representatives from non-govermental organizations and 50 media representatives from a number of countries,” he said.
The ADB meeting will discuss agenda items on investment increase, use of alternative energy and food resilience to support economic development.
In order to guarantee security during the meeting, Bali police will deploy 707 personnel who will be backed up by 77 police from the Police Headquarters in Jakarta.
