Nusa Dua – Asian Forrest Partnership (AFP) held a meeting in Nusa Dua, Bali to discuss illegal lodging and the efforts to decrease green house gases. Yani Saloh, the coordinator of Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), said that the meeting ws held on Wednesday, May 27th through May 29th 2009.
270 participants from 50 countries particitaped in the meeting which presented many important speakers such as Indonesia Forestry Minister, MS Kaban, the senior experts of CIFOR, Daniel Murdiyanto.
Yani said, “The whole world understands that forests play important roles in solving the global climate change. UNFCC will hold another conference in Copennhagen, Denmark to discus the international agreement on the world climate change.”
Countries throughout the world should donate steps to prevent deforestation and work together to solve the illegal lodging problems. The main message from AFP for Asia Pacific is to protect the rest of the tropical forests that are currently in danger.
“The dialog is a change to test whether the compensation payment through reducing green house gases could have direct results with solving the problems of illegal lodging,” he added.
The financial crisis could make the commitment of the developed countries to decrees the green house gases emission lessen. Yani said, “The developed countries have declared their opinion on accessibilities and the equal position on reducing the green house gases emission. Those problems caused new questions to emerge regarding the affectivity and efficiency in reducing emission based forestry.”
