Denpasar – Gilimanuk Harbor, one of the entrances to Bali is tightly guarded by police officers. The tight security is carried out because of the annual meeting of Asian Development Bank (ADB) which is being held in Nusa Dua.
The tight security is not only conducted in the entrance terminal from Ketapang Harbor in eastern Java but also in the exit post. Ketut Suardana, the head of Jembrana Police Department, said that the tight security is to anticipate any disturbances which may occur in Bali.
“We are trying to prevent dangerous materials or criminals from entering Bali especially because the ADB meeting is currently being held in Nusa Dua. Thousands of delegates from 67 countries have gathered in Bali,” added Mr. Suardana.
Thirty combined personnel from Bali’s Police Department, Bomb squad, anti-terror squad and car squad have been employed at Gilimanuk. All people entering and vehicles will be searched and examined by the officers. The officers are equipped with metal detectors and security gates in guarding the entrance.
Te sea area is also tightly guarded by Bali;s Marine Police. The Police officers regularly patrol in the area using speed boats and ships. The ADB meeting will be held until May 6th 2009.
