Denpasar – President Susilo Bambang Yodhoyono is expected to officially open the 31st Bali Art Festival (PKB), which will involve around 14,000 artists from Bali, 12 other provinces of Indonesia, and eight foreign countries.
The event will last for one month starting June 13th, 2009, I Made Santha of the Bali cultural services, said here on Tuesday.
The Bali administration also invited some ministers, including the foreign affairs minister, the minister/state secretary, the cultural and tourism ministry, as well as the education minister, to attend the opening of the PKB, he said.
After the opening in the morning, Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika will offficially open an art parade in the afternoon.
South Korea and Taiwan, two out of the eight countries to take part in the 31st Annual Bali Art Festival (PKB), will participate in the parade in the opening ceremony of PKB.
I Made Santha, the head of art division in the Bali Cultural Department, said “The art teams from those countries will perform and take part in the parade.” There will be 12 art groups from eight countries throughout the world taking part in the PKB. The other countries are USA, England, Singapore, Thailand, and Mexico.
The 31st Bali Art Festival will be held on June 13th through July 12th 2009. Foreign art teams always take part in the PKB. Last year 18 art groups from 12 countries took part in the festival. In 2007, 12 groups from seven foreign countries participated in the PKB.
Made Santha explained that in addition to performing individually, the foreign art groups often collaborate with local artists in their performances. The performances by foreign artists usually makes the locals more interested in preserving their traditions and could give many benefits for both sides in the future.
Participation of foreign art troupes in the BAF, Santha added, was very useful especially in the field of education and economy for the Balinese community and Indonesia. The presentation of foreign artists can unveil new ideas to develop the art itself.
