Tabanan – Balinese traditional arts performed on the second day of the Tanah Lot Cultural Festival attracted the attention of tourists who were visiting the tourism site. I Made Sujana, the head of the committee for the festival, said “Today we performed five different performances on five different stages so the tourism were able to pick the art show that they wanted to watch.”
The performances were topeng, baris, and cak dance, and the local play or “drama” and other traditional art such as tektekan and calonarang. He said that 4,000 artists took part in the festival which will be held until June 7th 2009.
In addition to performances in th wantilan or balai Pura Pekendungan, there is also food and handicrafts exhibition joined by hundreds of craftsmen in Tabanan. Mr. Sujana said that the tourist who wanted to watch the performances or see the exhibition didn’t have to pay; they only have to pay to enter Tanah Lot.
Through the Tanah Lot Festival, there is great hope that more tourists will visit Bali. During holidays, the visitors to Tanah Lot can reach up to 6,000 people per day.
I Wayan Diasa, the head of Tourism and the Cultural Department in Tabanan regency said that the festival was held to promote and preserve Balinese art and culture as well as to entertain the people.
