Benoa – Hundreds of ships docked in Benoa Harbor because they were having trouble finding fuel. Amin Syarifudin, a ship crew member, said “The fuel is very hard to find since several weeks ago but the conditions are getting worst over the last few days.”
The ships crowded the harbor which can only accommodate 450 ships. Furthermore, 9,000 ship crews were out of work due to the lack of fuel, and they chose to hang about the harbor waiting for the fuel to come.
Bali’s Fishery Departement had contacted the Indonesian Oil Company (Pertamina) in order to send fuel to the harbor. The stop owners joined with the Tuna Longline Indonesia Association (ATLI) hoping that the government would help solve the problem immediately.
Dwi Agus Siswaputra, the secretary general of ATLI said that for all the ships in Benoa Harbor, Pertamina must send at least 750 kilolitres. “There is great hope that the fuel will come shortly because the fish are abundant in the sea and there are crew members that needed money,” he added.
