Denpasar – Around 506 participants from 61 countries will attend the 3rd South and Southeast Asia Association for Study of Culture and Religion (SSEASR) conference in Denpasar, Bali, on June 3-6, 2009.
SSEASR President, Prof Amarjiva Lochan, said here on Saturday that the international event will take place at the Indonesian Art Institute (ISI) and Denpasar Hindu University (UNHI) campuses.
Culture and Tourism Minister Jero Wacik is scheduled to open the conference, themed “Water Perspective from South and Southeast Asia as Religion and Cultural Interaction.”
Lochan said the international conference will involve the ministry of Religious Affairs, National Education Ministry, and Culture and Tourism Ministry.
He added that the participants of the conference will come from among others the United States, Canada, China, Denmark, Britain, Germany, the Netherlands, Japan, South Korea, Laos, Malaysia, New Zealand, Oman, Singapore, Romania, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Mexico, and Indonesia as the host country.
“The participants have started to trickle in and are staying at a number of star hotels in Sanur, Kuta, and Nusa Dua,” the SSEASR president said in the company of the organizing committee officials, Prof Dr Ida Bagus Yudha Triguna and Ni Ketut Dewi Yulianti.
Meanwhile, Ida Bagus Yudha Triguna, the rector to UNHI, said the participants in the conference will discuss hundreds of working papers from the participating countries.
He said the participants from various scientific disciplines will exchange ideas in their effort to find the solutions to problems related to religion and culture.
“Indirectly, the event will have a positive impact on the local scientists to show their identity,” Yudha Triguna said.
