Six patients suffered from HIV died in Sanglah hospital in July 2009. Sagung Anom Suryani, the hed of VCT clinic in Sanglah hospital that handled HIV patients, said that the last two patients died this week; they were from Tabanan and Denpasar. “Both of them died while being treated intensively in the hospital,” she added.
The patient from Tabanan had been treated for a month in Sanglah Hospital because suffering from various kinds of diseases and already in AIDS face. While the patient from Denpasar died after being treated for 10 days in the hospital. He sufferd from tuberculosis.
Suryani said that the spread of HIV in Bali is very complex because it is connected with someone’s lifestyle and status whether from the social, economy, and cultural factors.
The base of the disease is the negative behavior of somebody, such as changing sex partner or using drugs. Currently, the number of HIV victims in Bali is incresing even preventive actions had been done.
The spread of HIV can be prevented by changing behaviors and reducing activities prone to HIV contamination. People should wear protection when they wanted to have sex and for those already infected by HIV should be aware and not transmitted it to others.
However, HIV suffer still need interaction and we should treat them as normal as possible. The society doesn’t have to alienate the victims because HIV can not be transmitted through touching or kissing. HIV also can not infect other through mosquito bite.
Since the disease first discovered 30 years ago, no one found the cure fro HIV. The first HIV case in Bali was reported in 1987 in a Holland citizen but as time go by, the locals are the one who suffer from the disease.
