The head of Bali Tourism Board, Ngurah Wijaya, said hat all elements of tourism in Bali should work together to re-arrange the tourism managements in Bali in order to cope with the international and domestic competition.
“Since long time ago, there is no departement that has the full authorities to organized and run the tourism area. Kuta beach for instance, who manage everything there? This is what needs to be discussed and determine,” he added.
Wijaya explained about the statement of Vietnam government regarding their effort to introduce China beach which will be developed in order to complete with Kuta beach and Phuket beach in Thailand.
In the statement, the Vietnam Government describe the as very clean, beautiful, with white sand. The waves are not too big and it also the extra value of the beach. China beach was very famous during the Vietnam war because it was the destination of American soldier during their holiday.
Currently, the beach is being developed by many investors. China is the one who committed to develop the beach in the past few years. Mr. Wijaya said “they can develop the beach but we must bear in mind that the tourist will not spend their money only to enjoy the few. Bali is famous for its culture and that attracted many tourists to visit Bali.”
He thinks that the Nusa Dua areas manage by Bali Tourism Development Corporation (BTDC) should become the model and can be followed by other tourism area in Bali. This kind of model has been known since long time ago and it could help in the development of tourism in Bali.
Actually, bali has many art, religious, or cultural events that can be presented to the tourists. However, there is no one to manage and facilitate those entertainments in one big forum. One of the potential events is Bali Art Festival, but it should be arranged and promoted professionally.
“The artists taking part in the festival won’t mind because basically the event presented based on culture and ritual,” added Wijaya. There is great hope the newly elected President will increase the tourism promotion fund. Currently, the government only gives 250 billion rupiah as the promotion fund while the income gained from tourism each year can up to $6 billion.
