Painters specialized in painting the traditional Bali style, carried out exhibition in Damping Gallery, Banjar Kutuh Kaja, Ubud, Gianyar, started on July 24th through August 7th 2009.
Wayan Sutarma, the owner of damping Gallery, said thet there are 31 painters take part in the exhibition, they are Made Suta, Made Sunarta, Made Madra, Ketut Sumadi, Nyoman Lidrayoga, Wayan Naya, Nyoman Edi, Ketut Juliarta, Kadek Sunarta, Made Rasna, Wayan Suparta, Made Suarsa, Wayan rapet, Wayan Maniyasa, Ketut Purna, Wayan Kayun, Wayan beneh, Made Widiarta, Made Teja, Made Jiwa, Ketut Sudila, Kadek Mudanayasa, Nyoman Sarta, Nyoman Suarta, Made Adi Antara, Nyoman Wirawan, Mangku Made Sucipta, Ni Ketut Suarsi, Ni Made Nyangkih, Ketut Roji, and Wayan Warsa.
In the exhibition, the painters exhibit the paintings about the daily life of the Balinese but mostly it shows the past events such as ngaben ceremony, wedding ceremony, farming, art performances, and market activities. Sutama said that the exhibition entitled “The Idealization of Bali” is being held in order to encourage the traditional Balinese painters. There is great hope that they can exhibit their works all around the world.
“We think that the future of Balinese traditional paintings depend on the generation of Balinese painters. The Damping Gallery wanted to attract the youngster to Bali’s Traditional art of painting,” he added.
In addition to display the work of the painters, the Gallery also established art group called Sanggar Pudak Bali. The group will become the accosiation for all arts in bali. Mr. Sutama said “the art group can create many activities in order to develop the artists in bali.”
The member of the gallery will not only conduct exhibition in Bali but also throughout Indonesia and even abroad. They also joined the auctions held by representative departments.
