In order to develop cruise ships business in Bali, the security is one of the main factors which affected the development. Ida Bagus Surakusuma, the regional Manager of Pacific Wold Nusantara, said “the police who always patrolling around the harbor area will give the sense of security for the tourists and cruise ships owner.”
Most of the cruise ships owner often worried if they docked in certain harbor so the existence of police officers whether they are patrolling in the harbor area or on the sea is very important.
The safety of the passengers or the tourists is also very important. Crimes such as robbery often happened in the harbor and it could give bad image for Bali abroad. Surakusuma said “the problems face in running cruise ships tourism is very complex. There are many things that need to be observed and analyzed.”
He also said that the harbor management needs to give priority to the cruise ships so they can receive better services. There are three categories considered by tourists or cruise ships owners before visiting a tourism site. First is the physical condition of the harbor. Second is the regulation to support the arrival of the ships. “The regulation means how the harbor management handling the docked ships. The agent in the harbor must be professional and in this case is pT Pelni,” added Surakusuma.
The third one is that they always wanted to receive the lastest map of the country they visit. The map must contain the rock under the sea because cruise ship is a very big ship. Surakusuma said “the maritime map is already existed in Indonesia but it always needed renewing. The cruise ship needs the perfect guidance before docking.”
The harbor facilities in Indonesia need to be improved in order to attract cruise ships coming to Bali. For example is the harbor in Tanah Ampo, Manggis, Karangasem. The harbor needs to be improved because it can also increase the economics of the people in Karangasem regency.
