The 7th annual Kuta Carnival was closed on Sunday, September 27th 2009 in Kuta beach. Thousands of tourists were watching the parade which was the part of the closing ceremony in Kuta. The carnival was held started on September 19th through September 27th 2009.
The ceremony was held in a simple way. I Ketut Nugra, the head of Kuta Carnival committee, said that the last event on the carnival was the parade. The participants were not only from the artists and cultural act but also the one themed religion and peaceful.
The theme of the carnival itself was “the celebration of life”. There were hundreds of participant from various believe such as Hare Kreshna Bali, Falun Dafa or Falun Gong Bali, and Kuta Kristen Community. The Falun Dafa attracted the attention of the audience by using yellow Chinese outfit.
Some parts of the road in Kuta were closed and hundreds of police officers, security officer, Balinese traditional police (pecalang), Kuta life guard were on guard during the parade.
Agan, a tourist from Jakarta, said “the intention was very good. The committee wanted to arrange the parade similar to the one in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. Unfortunately, the audiences were allowed to go to the street so we can not enjoy the performances because the people and the participants mixed on the street.”
On the stage, the master of ceremony was announcing the parade participants both in English and Indonesia so the foreigners also can understand and know the participants. However, the parade was distrurbed by hundreds of audiences, photographers, and others while the police can not control the crowd.
Agan who stayed in Kuta just to see the carnival, said that many events which was stated in the guide book were erased or failed to be carried out. “I don’t know the reason but actually we had been waiting the performance from the artists. It was a shame because it was a very good event. Hopefully the committee could arrange the vent better next year.”
The seventh annual Kuta carnival was held in Kuta Legian, and Seminyak because the areas are still in one beach line. The event was held in order to develop tourism in bali especially in Kuta.
