The number of people crossing to Java from Bali through Gilimanuk harbor were increasing in the last few days, especially the one using motorcycle. Ospar Silaban, the Operational Manager of Gilimanuk harbor, said “we already anticipate the increasing number of people. Approximately, there were 2,000 motorcycles travelling through the harbor on Saturday, September 12th 2009. The number will keep increasing until three days before the Lebaran.”
Those who chose to go early to their hometown wanted to avoid the traffic jam near the holiday. Ospar predicted that the number of people traveling using motorcycle this year will increase 15% compared to last year.
The total number of people traveling will also increase 5% through 10% this year. The Gilimanuk harbor management had prepared steps to anticipate the increasing number of people.
“We prepared 26 ships that can carry 37,496 passengers and 4,176 vehicles every day. We also hope that the people will always obey the rules,” Ospar said.
