Bali’s handicrafts exports to Japan during January through July 2009 period was still very stable. The handicrafts exports during those periods worth $45.5 million or approximately $6.5 million per month.
Ni Wayan Kusumawathi, the head of Bali Industrial and Trade Department, said that Japan is the second largest country that imported handicrafts from Bali. The most country was USA which imported Bali’s handicraft and farming products as much as $54 million or 20% of the total Bali’s exports which was $264 million during January through July 2009 period.
Bali’s handicrafts such as toys, handbag, flowers, and clothing were still being exported to Japan but the number was not as high as before the economics crisis hit the world. USA, Japan and European countries still become the main market for Bali’s handicrafts export.
Kusumawathi said that France was the thrid largest imported with the total $20 million worth of import in the first seven months of 2009, followed by Italy. The businessmen should expand the market outside those areas. They could promote the products in Africa, southern Asia, or Middle East.
The market is very potential because the numbers of export to those countries in 2009 keep increasing. The exports during January through July 2009 were $9.1 million or increased 8.3% compared to the previous year.
The exports to India and Srilanka worth $1 million and to the Middle East were $1.4 million. The number could increase if the businessmen create a better strategy.
