Dewa Nyoman Batuan, 63 years old artists from Pengosekan Ubud, will hold an exhibition in Spain. “Fifteen of my works themed ‘Mandala’ had been delivered to Spain. The exhibition will be held with the support of my best friend there,” he said.
The exhibition will be held in mid October or early November 2009. Batuan said “the sponsor of the exhibition will come to Bali in order to prepare everything needed for the event.” The sponsor is also artists who had stayed in Ubud for several years and the artists also will hold exhibition in Ubud.
The paintings already being sent to Spain last month but Batuan was still waiting for the right moments to hold a painting exhibition. The paintings were the result of selection done by Batuan himself from approximately 500 paintings.
Dewa Nyoman Batuan is the third generation of Pita Maha because her grandfather learn from Rudolf Bonet, a famous artists from Netherlands, stayed in Ubud. Bonnet along with the late Tjokorda Gde Agung Sukawati who was born in 1910 and a local artist, I Gusti Nyoman Lempad, established “Pita Maha” in 1936 which inspired the immagination of Balinese arts and culture.
“Pita Maha” is made to salvage and preserve the art of Bali by organizing all artists in Bali. Dewa Nyoman Batuan is one of the descendant of “Pita Maha”.
