Volume of rubbish pile in Badung Regency, notably in Kuta area on Galungan Holiday drastically soared up to doubled. This condition was caused by ritual activities taking place before and after Galungan. To anticipate such soaring pile of rubbish in Kuta, the Badung Office of Sanitary and Landscaping Services (DKP) prepared two units of roving rubbish truck. Head of DKP Office Wayan Suteja, in Denpasar, Friday (Oct 16), said that the volume of rubbish in Kuta averagely reached 700 m3 per day. In Badung, the total volume of daily rubbish reached 1,131 m3.
He said that Kuta indeed became the greatest contributor of rubbish in Badung regency. Due to doubling volume of rubbish in Kuta, Suteja revealed that starting from two days before until two days after Galungan, his party exceptionally added two units of roving rubbish truck for Kuta only excluding other 30 units standing by in Kuta. “The other 10 units are alerted in mengwi,” he said.
In the meantime, for sanitary attendants, Suteja admitted that they found no difficulties. According to him, the total number of 968 in DKP Office was proportional enough, namely 60 percent of them were Hindu and the remaining was of other religions. “therefore, it is easy for shift system implemented on religious holidays,” Suteja said while adding that his party also coordinated 310 sanitary attendants of village level.
