Quality of Bali tourism should be improved persistently if we do not want to be gobbled by other regions that currently are committing intensive promotion through some innovation. “We saw other regions performing innovation, and Bali would be threatened if it does not improve the quality of its tourism industry,” said Minister of Culture and Tourism Jero Wacik following the presentation of Indonesia Tourism Award (ITA) 2009 in Jakarta.
According to Wacik, many regions were competing to promote their destination by improving infrastructure shoring up the tourism. He exemplified, Lombok was currently establishing an international airport prepared to anticipate the increase of foreign tourist visit to the island.
Wacik regretted that several regions in Bali did not pay attention to the awards dedicated to tourism industry in Bali. Such indifference, said Wacik. Denoted a manifestation of their laziness and they ultimately would slept soundly and disregard the tourism program at their region. It was very hazardous.
On that account, Wacik added, every single award received by region should be appreciated as the form of gevenment and private sector’s concern on the performance shown by a region in supporting the nationwide tourism program. If we neglected and were lazy from now on, in years to come other ever-improving regions would take over the opportunity and our position to reach the advancement. “If we are lazy and indifferent, other region will take over our position. Bali could be overtaken later on. Therefore, if there is any award its should be appreciated as other region sending their governor and regents,” he said.
If a governor or regent was present in the forum, Wacik judged it could certainly become a manifestation of commitment belonging to regional leader to advance their region. “Please do not think that Bali has been well established and has no more competitors. As consequence, they disregarded and did not pay attention and it is immensely dangerous,” he described.
Previously, Directorate General of Marketing, Department of Culture and Tourism, Sapta Nirwandar, said that the event was organized in relation to provide appreciation and encourage the growth of regional tourism industry. “It represents our appreciation to the potential of our tourism keeping on developing at several regions,” said Sapta. To this extent, Sapta said that the committee presented ITA 2009 to nine categories as The most Favorite Tourism Industry. Meanwhile, the Indonesian best Destination award was presented to ten best cities whose selection process were performed through survey to the cities including in the nominations where respondents consisted of local tourist and foreign tourists.
The committee, said Sapta, would also extend special award to cities having a superiority and uniqueness. Standard of assessment implemented, he said, consisted of the amount of investment in tourism industry, innovation, promotion, uniqueness and attractiveness of the city of tourism destination.
