The number of foreign tourists visited Bali continue to increase in the last few months especially because the security level is increasing and the number of direct flight to Bali is also greater in number.
Made Kawiana, a tourism observer, said that the plan by Garuda Indonesia Airways to fly directly to cities in Europe will certainly increase the number of tourists visited Bali. Currently, the number of tourists from Netherlands, Germany and England are increasing gradually.
The data from Bali Tourism Department showed that the number of tourists from Europe fly directly to Bali in January through September 2009 period was 445,145 people or 26% from the total number of tourists coming to Bali which was 1,672,923 tourists.
In the last three months, the number of tourists from Europe increasing gradually started from 46,124 tourists in June, 68,782 in July and 67,815 in August. The highest increase happened on the tourists from France which increased 43%.
The tourists from Germany decreased 3.5% in January through September 2009 compared to the same period last year. Kawiana said that the tourists from Europe tend to stay longer in Bali; they can stay up to one month. This is not like the tourists from Asia where most of them only stay for one week or less.
The tourists from Europe are fond of Balinese traditional art and culture such as “ngaben” ceremony. They wanted to take a closer look at the unique culture.
