Big waves which happen in Bali’s coastal area destroyed houses around the beach. On Tuesday, February 2nd 2009, three houses were destroyed on Tejakula beach in Buleleng and two others were destroyed on Candikusuma beach in Jembrana. The fish market and Bali Marine Police post which is located on Candikusuma becah was also destroyed by the waves.
Gde Sugianyar, the spokesman of Bali Police Department, said “some of the walls of the police post were destroyed. The building itself is nearly collapse.” Some walls on the beach which is built to prevent abrasion were also damaged.
The condition is seen in the beach throughout Klungkung and Karangasem regency. The big waves which are more than 3 meters high occur since Monday, February 1st 2010. The big waves are making the people who stayed near the beach very worried. On Tuesday, February 2nd 2010, the condition was getting better so some of them were returning to their houses.
Made Runa, an inhabitant of Lebih beach, said that they are also very worry about the weather condition. “The waves were more than 2 meter high and that made them worry,” he added.
Runa also said that the bid waves also made the fishermen can not go to the sea. “Most of the fishermen don’t dare to go to the sea. They better waiting for the weather condition to improve before they go to the sea,” he added.
