Traffic jam in Denpasar is becoming more and more worrisome. It even in some cross roads has entering stage F, means that it has too crowded. In order to minimize the jam, Transportation Service will put Area Traffic Control System (ATCS), at least six of them at the most crowded spots.
It was revealed in a meeting of Commission B Denpasar Council with Transportation Service, Tuesday (February 21st). The meeting whose led by head of Commission B, Eko Supriadi was opened by Vice Head of Denpasar Council, A.A. Ngurah Wira Bima Wikrama. From the Transportation Service was attend by the Chairman, I Gede Astika accompanied by some head fields as well as ATCS team, among them are Putu Alith Suthanaya, S.T., M.Eng.Sc., Ph.D. and Ketut Budiarta.
Transportation Service Chairman, Gede Astika said that the devices attachment would be able to reduce crowd level at the crossroad area. All this time, the traffic light run manually, it cannot adjust with the level of vehicles in each internode. “With this ATCS, the setting can be change anytime according to the level of density in each of them,” Astika said in front the council.
Meanwhile, ATCS team of Alit Suthanaya said that ATCS is part of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). An information technology that always used in highway to assists the official solving over their overcrowded traffic. “This is one of device that we can use to help us with the jam,” he said.
It was said that according to the research conducted, there are three jamming categories in Denpasar. West Denpasar is the most crowded one, followed by North Denpasar then by the lesser one in South and East Denpasar.
There are six location will be attach with ATCS, that is Mahendradata-Gunung Agung, Teuku Umar-Imam Bonjol, Imam Bonjol-Gunung Soputan, Gunung Agung-Setiabudi, Teuku Umar-Gunung Salak and Teuku Umar-Batanta. “Others crowded crossroads will have the same tools but they will attached by Bali Transportation Services,” he said.
Concerning this plan, member of Commission B, Wayan Mariyana Wandhira had asked about the affectivity of those devices in reducing the happening jam. All this time, his party still can use manpower at the transportation service to watch over the crowded crossroads. “If we compare between the device and Transportation Service manpower, which one of them is more effective and efficient? Wandhira asked.
Responding to Wandhira question, Gede Astika confessed that the use of manpower cannot fully 24 hours. They needs a break meanwhile using the devices, we can use it fully all day long.
